Oct 27, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX News Network) -- 10/27/2009 - United Technologies (NYSE:UTX) has emerged as the frontrunner to purchase General Electric's (NYSE:GE) fire alarm and surveillance systems unit, according to a Bloomberg report that cites people familiar with the matter. The unit would add to the company's strategy of providing service contracts for equipment and systems in commercial buildings to lock in revenue for several years. People said in August that the unit was thought to be valued at around $2 billion.
