Oct 23, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX News Network) -- 10/23/2009 - BP (NYSE:BP) is reportedly considering a bid for Kosmos Energy's stake in the Jubilee field off the coast of Ghana, and has chosen Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) to advise it on the transaction, according to a Bloomberg report that cites two people familiar with the deal. One of the people said that BP's interest could threaten Exxon Mobil's (NYSE:XOM) plan to buy the stake for at least $4 billion. Blackstone-backed (NYSE:BX) Kosmos said on October 12 that it agreed to sell its Ghanaian assets, including its 23.49% stake in the Jubilee field, to Exxon. Goldman had previously advised Cnooc Limited (NYSE:CEO) on buying the assets, but its switch to BP implies that the Cnooc deal is dead.
